We strive to provide a safe haven for the most at risk wild mustangs. Those who have no where else to go. We assess them and either rehab and retrain them to place them in appropriate homes or provide a forever home for those who wish to stay wild.
Dos Lomas Wild Ranch is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization started by Isidro and Amber Espinoza. They are well known and accomplished wild mustang trainers. They come with a wealth of knowledge on the care, training and maintenance of wild horses.
Their vision is to catch the most at risk mustangs before falling into the slaughter pipeline or ending up in a bad situation.
Another huge focus at Dos Lomas Wild Ranch is education. Many wild mustangs end up in bad situations because a lack of knowledge about training, health and management by their adopters. Dos Lomas Wild Ranch strives to meet this need in an easily accessible online format.

Ligero means "light" in Spanish.
He was selected for the 2022 Virtual Extreme Mustang Makeover. A uniquely handsome big gray gelding, 15hh from Choke Cherry, UT HMA. He was Sale Authority so could not be returned to the BLM and no longer had government protection. When we brought him home he seemed like he would be fairly easy to domesticate. But he was really good at hiding his true feelings.
He was supposed to be 7yrs old but after doing his teeth, we found out he was actually 11yrs old! He progressed painfully slowly and every step was one step forward and half a step back. We trained him for about a year and a half. He did eventually get a first ride and some subsequent rides but it was obvious he didn't want to be ridden. He didn't really want to have anything to do with humans at all.
We had an animal communicator speak to him and she said he has an Eeyore mentality. He had a lot of trauma in the wild when he was young that he hangs on to. He is pretty grumpy and unhappy in general. He balked at the thought of a human on his back. We made some headway with him bringing his personality out and getting him to enjoy somethings. After a long conversation with his owner we decided to just turn him out in pasture and give him a break from training. We saw after some time he was so incredibly happy turned out in his little herd. Collectively we decided to make him a member of the sanctuary.
Ligero, and mustangs like him, are the reason we created this space. He will have a forever home here galloping our pastures with his mustang friends.
Dos Lomas means Two Hills in Spanish. Snowflake is in North East Arizona about 2hrs East of Flagstaff. It has a very temperate climate with all four seasons but none of them extreme. The high desert conditions make for a very comfortable life for wild horses. The ranch sits on 40 acres and is completely off-grid.
Fern is a mustang in need of rehabilitation and retraining. We need funding before we can accept her into the sanctuary. We need to raise $5,000 to help with her rehab and retraining process. Please consider donating so we can get started with Fern.
Our current pastures are suitable for semi-trained mustangs only who do not test fencing. We would like to re-fence the main sanctuary pasture to be able to accept more wild horses if needed. We are happy to do the labor but will need funding for the materials. Please consider donating to help with the materials so we can help a broader range of wild horses.
The General Fund is for hay, feed, supplements, vet care, farrier care and any other routine care and maintenance of the sanctuary horses, especially, the long term residents. We try and keep costs to a minimum with good management.
